Adolescence PSHE L13: How Did We Make That?

£7.50

This KS4 PSHE lesson explores guilt, generational masculinity, and the emotional roots of youth behaviour through Jamie’s parents in Adolescence Episode 4, Part 3. Students reflect on nature vs nurture, emotional suppression, and family responsibility in shaping boys’ identities.

In this powerful KS4 PSHE lesson, students explore the emotional aftermath of violence through the eyes of Jamie’s parents. Based on Episode 4, Part 3 of the Netflix series Adolescence, this lesson examines guilt, responsibility, and how parental actions and societal expectations shape young people’s behaviour.

Titled How Did We Make That?, this Socratic Circle lesson invites students to reflect on intergenerational masculinity, missed signs, and the question of nature vs nurture. As Jamie’s parents revisit their own upbringing, parenting choices, and the culture their son was raised in, students consider how emotional avoidance and pressure to “toughen up” boys can contribute to harmful behaviour.

Through sensitive and structured dialogue, this lesson encourages deep empathy and critical thinking about family influence, emotional literacy, and responsibility.
